Friday
Today was fun. We were in a school and they had a place off to the side where we could play soccer. As we pulled up in the bus, I knew immediately who to give the soccer ball to. As we pulled up, there was this little black kid who came running up to meet us. He came up wearing a black and blue striped soccer jersey, black soccer shorts, white socks pulled up knee high, along with tennis shoes. I knew that this kid loved soccer. And I was right. He loves soccer like MJ (Jordan not Jackson) loves basketball.
I played a couple of games of soccer with about ten of the kids there until I got hurt (tore scrub pants and scraped knee). Once I left, most of the other kids left as well. After I had cleaned up and was able to rehydrate, I looked out and saw only my little soccer MJ kicking the ball against the bamboo fence. I knew at that moment that he truly loved the game.
Here’s the take home lesson for you:
The kid loved soccer. This was displayed by his skill, joy, and perseverance to keep practicing. He doesn’t love soccer because of his skill, joy, and practice. But instead, his skill, joy, and practice are simply signs of a deep heart passion. The same is true with Jesus. Me being a medical missionary here in Ecuador doesn’t cause me to love God or God to love me any more than He already does (cross). Instead, me being a missionary is simply my response to God’s love for me and His people here in Ecuador; just like the kid’s skill, joy, and practice are his response to the love for soccer in him.
…And oh yeah, tomorrow I come home! : ) / : (
Tuesday – Thursday
So…it’s not Tuesday, I know. My b. Just been teetering the line between busy and exhausted. I’m having trouble with the video so I’m just gonna post a picture and type tonight. Better luck tomorrow.
So this is a picture of what I do all day. I help my dad organize the masses and get them through our clinic. It good fun work. However, it can be stressful at times.
When we got to the church where our clinic was going to be yesterday, the church had already laid out signs, seats, and tables for all they expected us to do. They also had three separate lines for general medicine, eye glasses, and dental. However, our doctors all just do general medicine and the eye glasses is separate. But there needs to only be one line. So we had to overcome their system before we could implement ours. It was necessary to implement ours because we know how we work the best and most efficient. During this time, the Holy Spirit really spoke to me. He explained how the church and many Christians treat God like the church treated us. Although it was going to be us doing all the work, they had predetermined how we were going to do it. We do the same with God as we pray, do this, this, and this by then.
But today was a different story. When we got there the church had everybody in a single line. Although they had stations pre-labeled (incorrectly), they simply told us to come in and setup however we needed. They just wanted to know how they could serve us as we served their community. This is the cry of the Holy Spirit. Our prayers instead should be, Lord, how can I serve You today? Not the other way around.
So take that for what it’s worth. Just a cool lesson in humility from God.
Hopefully a video will be up tomorrow.
